In 2024, I committed to creating one new artwork each week, resulting in a series of mixed-media “tiles” on 14.5" x 14.5" watercolor paper, all cut from a single 60" x 180" 130 lb. Canson watercolor paper roll. The series began with a continuous graphite line drawn across all the squares – an anchor and invitation into process. The works are intuitive, layered, and at times contradictory, featuring a range of materials including graphite, acrylic, Japanese kozo paper, produce netting, and copper wire. (Note: There are three weeks – May 25, July 13 and August 31 – that did not stick to the “rule” of one new artwork each week. Halfway through the year, I counted the "tiles" and discovered there were only 36 weeks. Apparently, a mathematical error was made when the roll of paper was cut.) Upon completion, the collection of “squares” creates one comprehensive artwork at approximately 8.5’ x 6’.
