Without losing sight of all signs of life, how far from the earth can we travel? Without exhausting resources of the earth, how much further can we go with no turning back? Drinking water, electricity, sanitary facilities, sufficient food, population, consumption, poverty, excessive building and more are factors that exert great pressure on our limited, natural resources. By 2050, there will be nearly 9.6 billion people on this planet. If mankind continues to live like Westerners, we would need two more planets to meet the demands.
We have an extraordinary opportunity. Collaboratively, we must promote technologies that pollute less and demand our elected representatives to support water and energy conservation. It doesn’t necessitate consuming less; it means consuming wisely.
With Latitude & Longitude, I use coordinates to draw attention to a specific location on our planet with an environmental story to tell. This environmental series of work uses textures, grids and tactile materials to provide an intimate perspective. I apply mixed media and encaustic paints to create a veil of light, depth and transparency to achieve an abstract environment.
